Finn Cross
Finn Cross is a minimally processed (non-superwash) yarn spun from 100% Canadian wool from a flock of Finnsheep x Rambouillet sheep from Linc Farms, Marshview, Nova Scotia. It is 2 plies, worsted spun by TapRoot Fibre Lab, Greenwich, Nova Scotia.
Yardage and gauge: fingering to sport weight in 100g skeins (unless otherwise noted).
Approx. 365 m/ 400 yd per skein; the actual yardage varies by batch, from 360-407 m (393-445 yds).
Batch notes: The folks at TapRoot Fibre Lab found that there was some variation between fleeces; some were bouncy and Rambouillet-like, while others were longer and silkier like Finnsheep wool. They processed the fleeces in small batches, preparing and spinning each batch to bring out the best from the wool. Every skein is labeled with its batch number and yardage; if you want to combine skeins from different batches in a single project, do take a look at the yardage numbers to see if they're close enough for your plans.

Description: Soft and airy, with a bit of lustre and a slightly silky hand. Slightly toothy in the skein, but soft enough to be suitable against the skin for most people. The yarn has some variation in thickness and some occasional slubby spots. Minimally processed, so most skeins include vegetable matter in large pieces that are easy to remove. Knots are rare in this yarn.
Colours: Undyed colours include cream, deep brown, and intermediate browns mixed from the light and dark fleeces. Dyed colours are slightly chalky in appearance, usually with slightly tonal variation.
Ideal uses: lightweight sweaters, hats, cowls, shawls. Great for colourwork, brioche/ fisherman's rib; especially beautiful in stockinette, which really shows off the softness and sheen.
Felting potential: This wool is non-superwash and will felt! It takes careful attention during the dyeing process to avoid felting it; you should take precautions when washing any item made from this yarn.
Care instructions: handwash cold with minimal agitation; lay flat to dry.
