Learn to Knit class
Curious about knitting? Looking for a satisfying way occupy your hands? Did someone show you how to knit long ago but you don't really remember how it all works? Come join Marit in this four-hour class for beginner knitters. No experience necessary. All ages and genders are welcome!
Our class project will be based on the Wheat Scarf, a free pattern from Tin Can Knits. You will need to download and/or print your own copy of the pattern to bring to class. You may choose whether to knit the full scarf or to make it into a cowl (a closed loop to wear around the neck). By the end of the two class sessions, you will have begun knitting the scarf or cowl and will be equipped with the knowledge to finish it outside of class time.
Class includes:
- how to knit and purl (the basic stitches that make up the fabric of all knitting)
- casting on (getting started) and binding off (ending)
- how to choose yarn & needles for a simple scarf
- how to read a knitting pattern
- learning to "read" your knitting (ie, recognizing knit vs. purl stitches)
Class size: four people maximum
Class fee: $115 ($80 instruction fee + $25 materials) includes instruction, knitting needles, yarn for practicing. This does NOT include the cost of yarn for the final project, which ranges from $26-$68 depending on what you choose.
