Colour Confidence for Fibre Artists: Understanding Colour Theory Through Fibre Blending

Colour is one of the most exciting, and frustrating, parts of the fibre arts. Whether blending wool for spinning, layering fibres in felt, combining colours in weaving, or mixing dyes, many fibre artists rely on instinct or luck when combining colours, and often end up with results that feel unpredictable, or muddy. 

In this workshop, Lorna Ash (Shades of Ewe Fibreworks) introduces a practical, fibre-based approach to colour theory designed specifically for fibre artists. Participants will explore how colours interact through guided blending exercises using wool fibre, building the skills to make intentional, repeatable colour choices in their own work, and  will leave with a personal set of reference samples.

This workshop is ideal for hand spinners, needle and wet felters, weavers working with colour interaction, fibre artists and dyers interested in colour mixing and blending

Materials included: Duotangs with printed worksheets

Equipment to bring: A set of hand cards, or a pair of dog slicker brushes for blending fibre
Pen or pencil
(Optional) A jewelry / kitchen scale that can accurately measure to 0.01 g. If you have a scale, please bring it. There will be one scale provided per pair of people, but if you bring your own, then you don’t need to share the one provided.

Prerequisites: No colour theory experience required.

Class size: 8 people maximum

Class fee: $125, plus a $30 materials fee paid directly to the instructor.  

Scholarships: A limited number of $30 scholarships are available for this class.  If a scholarship would help make it more affordable for you to take this course, enter the code ColourPlay when you register for class. No need to explain or make a special request.

Cancellation policy: Registration fees are refundable (minus a 10% admin fee) until 24 hours prior to class.  No refunds are available within 24 hours of class.  (If you are sick, please do not come to class; contact me to make alternate arrangements.)
