Spinning Textured Art Yarns Level 1- Singles Techniques

Ready to start playing with texture? In this workshop you’ll learn how to take control of your fibre and create bold, expressive textured yarns. Join Lorna Ash of Shades of Ewe Fibreworks as she guides you through the fundamentals of textured yarn spinning, with a focus on intentional technique rather than happy accidents.

Participants will learn how to spin: • Wild Fibre yarns • Thick and Thin yarns • Bulky / Stand alone singles • Simple wrapping techniques

Equipment to bring: • Spinning wheel (large orifice is nice, if you have the option) • 3 bobbins • A lazy Kate

Materials to bring: • 100 g of a short staple, combed wool top (like Merino or Polwarth) • 2–3 spools of thread (choose colours that complement or contrast with your fibre) • 30–50 g of small fibre additions from your stash, such as dyed locks, loose fibre, Angelina, silk, silk noils, or leftover fibre ends.

If you don’t have these materials on hand, texture packs and hand-dyed fibre braids will be available from the instructor for purchase prior to the workshop.

Prerequisites: This workshop is designed for spinners who are comfortable with basic spinning and plying, and can perform these tasks without assistance.

Class size: 8 people maximum

Class fee: $125

Note: We will take a 30 minute break for lunch in the middle of class; please bring lunch or a snack with you.
